This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Co-lead the collection of field data, quality assurance, analysis, and summary reporting for landscape-scale LTPBR assessments and design initiatives.
• Co-manage the selection of restoration sites, development of LTPBR technical designs (both conceptual and preliminary), and the implementation of projects in collaboration with agency partners, seasonal technicians, and field youth crews.
• Carry out project-specific administrative tasks, which include drafting field sampling protocols, creating data collection sheets/applications/databases, reporting, invoicing, and managing budgets.
• Collaborate with state and federal partner agencies and subcontractors to present scientifically-driven field results and aid in guiding site prioritization efforts in conjunction with the regional Technical Advisory Group (TAG).
• Work together with U.S. Forest Service staff, city/agency officials, private landowners, and other essential program partners to provide updates on project status, navigate inter-departmental logistics, and ensure coordination among concurrent projects in the landscape.
• Participate in Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 9 (Duwamish/Green River) and 10/12 (Puyallup/White River) Salmon Recovery Lead Entity Meetings, along with other regional watershed meetings as requested.
• Assist with outreach initiatives for the LTPBR project in collaboration with TU Communications staff, which includes developing content for TU’s platforms and audiences. Demonstrate availability and willingness to co-facilitate congressional, press, film, or other field tours of project areas as needed.
• Collaborate with local and regional partners, as well as TU staff, to secure funding for both program and project support, which involves identifying potential funding sources, drafting grant proposals, and establishing relationships with funders.
• Coordinate with the USFS & TU grassroots State Council and Chapter volunteers to organize LTPBR education and implementation events in alignment with project construction schedules.
• Work with TU staff and members to support science-based advocacy for salmon and steelhead conservation, as necessary.
• A bachelor’s degree in biology, natural resources, or a related field, along with a minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in fisheries, natural resource management, or ecological habitat restoration.
• A solid understanding of natural resource management issues related to the conservation of salmon and steelhead in Washington State.
• Experience with principles, methods, and practices of river restoration in the Pacific Northwest, including a firm grasp of Low-tech Process-based Restoration (LTPBR) techniques; knowledge of LTPBR structure design, permitting, installation, and monitoring logistics is advantageous.
• Proven experience collaborating with landowners, agencies, and project stakeholders is desired.
• Experience with non-profit organizations is a plus, but not essential.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Ability to creatively problem-solve and think outside the box. Strong time management and organizational skills are essential.
• Self-motivated and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines simultaneously.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently across the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia Metro Areas, with occasional additional travel within Washington for field visits, staff meetings, conferences, etc.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a dependable personal vehicle are required.
• Extensive experience with the MS Office Suite is necessary; familiarity with additional software (e.g., ArcGIS, R, Canva, mobile data collection applications, etc.) is preferred.
• Travel reimbursement (including mileage, lodging, and per diem) is provided for all qualifying work-related travel.
