This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.
• Tasked with the precise review and assignment of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and ICD-10-CM codes for professional claims submitted by Capital Health Medical Group (CHMG) concerning hospital and outpatient procedures.
• Correctly implements official coding conventions and regulations set forth by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the allocation of procedural and diagnostic codes.
• Evaluates procedure documentation to ensure the accurate assignment of ICD-10-CM diagnoses, current procedural terminology (CPT-4) codes, and modifiers.
• Guarantees proper coding of evaluation and management services when relevant.
• Achieves or surpasses departmental accuracy and productivity benchmarks.
• Maintains adherence to national coding standards and Capital Health's policies to ensure complete, accurate, and consistent coding, facilitating appropriate reimbursement and data integrity.
• Promotes teamwork and collaboration within the department.
• Timely addresses professional coding pre-bill edits to minimize days in the Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) status.
• Serves as a subject matter expert in professional coding.
• Applicants must reside in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania region.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) is mandatory.
• An Associate's degree in health information management is preferred.
• A minimum of two years' experience in a physician coding role is preferred.
• Experience in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding is preferred.
• One year of surgical coding experience is preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Strong understanding of surgical coding guidelines.
• Familiarity with pathophysiology and disease processes.
• Special Training: Certification in physician coding and training.
• Proficient in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge in Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, or Pathophysiology is essential.
• CPC-A, CPC, or CCS-P certification is required.
