Professional Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Responsible for the precise review and assignment of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and ICD-10-CM codes for professional claims billed by Capital Health Medical Group (CHMG) concerning hospital and outpatient procedures.

• Accurately implements official coding conventions and regulations established by the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the assignment of procedural and diagnostic codes.

• Evaluates procedure documentation to ensure correct assignment of ICD-10-CM diagnosis, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4) codes, and modifiers.

• Guarantees appropriate coding of evaluation and management services whenever applicable.

• Achieves or surpasses departmental standards for accuracy and productivity.

• Ensures adherence to national coding guidelines and Capital Health's policies for coding that is complete, accurate, and consistent, leading to proper reimbursement and data integrity.

• Promotes teamwork and collaboration within the department.

• Timely addresses professional coding pre-bill edits to minimize days in DNFB.

• Serves as a subject matter expert in professional coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must be residents of the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) is mandatory.

• An associate's degree in health information management is preferred.

• A minimum of two years' experience in a physician coding role is preferred.

• Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding is preferred.

• At least one year of surgical coding experience is preferred.

• Knowledge and Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

• Comprehensive understanding of surgical coding guidelines.

• Familiarity with pathophysiology and disease processes.

• Special Training: Certification in physician coding and training is required.

• Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, or Pathophysiology is essential.

• CPC-A, CPC, or CCS-P certification is required.
