This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Responsible for coding inpatient and/or outpatient hospital records, emergency department records, home health and hospice records, and/or professional fee services.
• Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Reviews patients' complete current medical records to assign appropriate codes.
• Collects data for the Quality Improvement department.
• Addresses any pre-bill edits, denials, etc., for assigned accounts.
• Keeps current with technical knowledge of legal and regulatory information.
• Participates in departmental training sessions and updates.
• Demonstrates proficiency in coding across multiple areas.
• A high school diploma or GED is required.
• At the time of hire, must have one of the following coding certifications: HCS-D, CCS, CCS-P, CPC-H, CPC, or RHIT/RHIA, with the achievement of one of the above coding credentials within one year of hire.
• One to three years of coding experience is required.
• Must have computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with an encoder is preferred.
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records is preferred.
• Must be able to utilize the internet and other electronic resources for research purposes.
