This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Accountable for the precise and timely coding of moderately complex encounters in accordance with established coding standards, CMS regulations, and hospital protocols.
• Accurately encodes diagnostic and procedural data following official coding standards, facility-specific guidelines, and federal regulations.
• Reviews moderately complex medical records to determine the appropriate sequence and code diagnoses and procedures in line with established coding practices, CMS, and hospital guidelines.
• Responsible for the accurate coding of same-day hospital surgeries, observations, ancillary services, emergency department encounters, and/or professional services.
• Ensures optimal assignment of CPT, ASC, APC, and APG codes as applicable.
• Demonstrates understanding and capability to resolve coding-specific edits such as CCI, LCD, NCD, and MUE.
• Contributes to the OP Clinical Documentation Improvement program.
• Maintains productivity and quality levels in accordance with established benchmarks.
• Operates within UH Billing timelines.
• Keeps coding knowledge and skills current through written resources, clinical information, and educational webinars.
• Stays informed about guidelines and regulations impacting the UHHS Coding Department.
• Maintains up-to-date credentials.
• Adheres to the Standards of Ethical Coding as outlined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (Preferred) or Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in ICD-10 CM, PCS, and/or CPT coding (Required)
• Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology (Required proficiency)
• Detail-oriented and organized, possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills (Required proficiency)
• Self-driven with the capability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment (Required proficiency)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Required proficiency)
• Proven ability to operate PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (e.g., printers, copiers, fax machines). Must be adept at navigating multiple systems (Required proficiency)
• Licenses and Certifications: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) (Required Upon Hire) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (Required Upon Hire) or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) (Required Upon Hire) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) (Required Upon Hire) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) (Required Upon Hire) or Radiology Coding Certification (RCC) (Required Upon Hire) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC) (Required Upon Hire) or Certified Hematology and Oncology Coder (CHONC) (Required Upon Hire)
• $5,000 Sign-on Bonus for candidates with coding experience
