This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Review clinical documentation to assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes for specific patient categories to fulfill the requirements of hospital data or physician data retrieval for billing and reimbursement.
• Validate APC calculations to ensure accurate capture of the diagnoses/procedures documented in the clinical record for hospitals.
• Conduct documentation reviews and assessments for precise abstracting of clinical data to meet regulatory and compliance standards.
• Collaborate with client staff and providers as necessary.
• Select and sequence ICD-10, and/or CPT/HCPCS codes for designated patient types, including but not limited to: Ancillary (Diagnostic)/Recurring; Hospital, Clinic; Physician Pro Fee; Technical Fee or Evaluation and Management.
• Analyze facility records to confirm that APC assignments and/or Evaluation and Management codes accurately represent the diagnoses/procedures documented in the clinical record.
• Complete assigned tasks using appropriate resources.
• Uphold strict patient and provider confidentiality in accordance with all HIPAA Guidelines.
• Participate in client and Savista staff meetings, training sessions, and conference calls as requested and/or required.
• Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of ICD-10 and/or CPT/HCPCS, coding guidelines, government regulations, protocols, and third-party requirements related to coding and/or billing.
• Engage in continuing education activities to enhance knowledge and skills, as well as to maintain current credentials.
• An active AHIMA credential, including but not limited to RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, or an active AAPC credential such as COC (formerly CPC-H), CCS-P, or CPC, or a related specialty credential.
• Two years of recent and relevant hands-on coding experience.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, as well as ICD-10 and CPT/HCPCS code sets.
• Ability to consistently code at a 95% quality threshold while meeting client-specific and/or Savista production and/or quality standards.
• Proficient computer skills, including MS Office, with the ability to enter data, sort, and filter Excel files (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
• Recent and relevant experience in an active production coding environment is strongly preferred.
• Associate degree in HIM or a healthcare-related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Familiarity with RCX, Cerner, and Nextgen is a plus.
