Product Owner / Director of Engineering – Critical Power

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.

📋 Description

• Develop the product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle strategy for low-voltage power distribution equipment.

• Manage and prioritize product development initiatives in collaboration with Product Management, Sales, and Operations.

• Convert customer and market needs into comprehensive technical product specifications.

• Promote platform standardization and modular product architecture to enhance scalability and minimize engineering lead times.

• Assist in customer engagement, technical assessments, and go-to-market efforts, which include documentation, training, and product positioning.

• Direct mechanical engineering efforts for enclosures, busbar systems, cable management, structural assemblies, and thermal solutions.

• Set mechanical engineering standards, design methodologies, and development workflows.

• Create and evaluate CAD models, drawings, and BOMs for production purposes.

• Ensure designs fulfill criteria for thermal performance, structural soundness, manufacturability, and serviceability.

• Promote design-for-manufacturing (DFM), cost reduction, and ongoing improvement initiatives.

• Work closely with electrical engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and field service teams.

• Lead design reviews and coordinate efforts across various disciplines.

• Supervise prototyping, testing, validation, and product launch activities.

• Aid project execution for both custom and standard product configurations.

• Oversee engineering modifications and continuous product enhancement initiatives.

• Ensure compliance with relevant UL, NEC, IEC, and ANSI standards for products.

• Assist in certification processes, testing, and regulatory submissions.

• Monitor field performance and lead root cause analysis along with corrective actions.

• Create robust documentation and quality processes to facilitate scalable growth.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, with an advanced degree preferred.

• Over 8 years of experience in power distribution equipment, switchgear, or similar low-voltage electrical products.

• Proven experience in leading mechanical engineering development for critical electrical equipment.

• Strong knowledge of PDUs, RPPs, switchboards, busbar systems, and considerations for thermal/mechanical design.

• Familiarity with product ownership, platform development, or responsibilities related to product strategy.

• Proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM/PLM systems, and engineering documentation practices.

• Demonstrated capability to lead cross-functional teams and drive project execution.
