Product Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Quickly familiarize yourself with Clutch's lending products, the experiences of borrowers and operators, as well as the compliance and legacy systems involved, enabling you to contribute effectively.

• Foster relationships and build credibility: Position yourself among product managers, engineers, and credit union partners, earning their trust as a design leader within the team.

• Engage with AI: Begin utilizing Clutch's AI design tools and methodologies from your first week, exploring and prototyping with AI.

• Take ownership of a significant project: Manage a large, loosely-defined design initiative from discovery to delivery, identifying the problem and determining the scope of work independently.

• Create and implement real design flows: Lead the design of a crucial component of the loan application experience, minimizing friction for both borrowers and operators.

• Build functional prototypes: Leverage AI to develop working prototypes and implement straightforward production changes in collaboration with engineering.

• Enhance clarity through research: Conduct interviews, concept tests, and usability sessions to substantiate your design decisions, and share insights with your partners.

• Adopt a systems-thinking approach: Map comprehensive workflows (including handoffs, compliance checkpoints, and edge cases) and design reusable, scalable patterns instead of isolated screens.

• Lead a vital, high-stakes workflow: Oversee the design process for a core segment of the lending journey (such as intake or decision-making), navigating the accompanying ambiguity and cross-team dependencies.

• Influence direction beyond execution: Integrate research and data into discussions about roadmaps and prioritization, shaping what the team develops and the rationale behind it.

• Elevate team standards: Facilitate design critiques, share insights about AI-assisted workflows, and contribute to enhancing processes and documentation across the team.

• Collaborate judiciously: Work closely with PMs and engineers as a genuine thought partner, discerning when to operate independently and when to involve collaborators to translate user and business requirements into production-ready designs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience: 6-8 years in product design, with proven expertise in fintech, SaaS, or similarly complex, workflow-oriented environments.

• AI enthusiasm and expertise: Passionate about AI in design and actively applying it, using AI for prototyping, designing, and deploying simpler features rather than just creating static Figma mockups. You will help establish standards for AI-driven design within the team.

• Service and systems design: Confidently designs across comprehensive processes (multi-step flows, various user types such as borrowers and back-office operators, handoffs, and edge cases) while providing structure to vague, loosely defined problem areas.

• Craftsmanship: Possesses outstanding visual and interaction design capabilities, maintaining a high standard for clear and elegant solutions to complex, data-intensive experiences.

• User empathy: Adept at identifying user needs through research, translating those needs into design choices, and advocating for them during roadmap and prioritization discussions.

• Collaborative judgment: Works seamlessly with PMs and engineers as a genuine thought partner, demonstrating strong instincts for when to act independently and when to involve others.

• Autonomy and accountability: Capable of managing large, ambiguous projects from start to finish, defining the issues, scoping the work, sensibly refining the scope, and driving it to completion with minimal oversight.

• Influence and communication: Possesses exceptional storytelling, documentation, and presentation abilities; clearly articulates both design outcomes and the rationale, shaping the perspectives of partners and stakeholders.

• Comfort with complexity: Demonstrates patience and pragmatism in navigating regulated workflows, legacy tools, and real-world constraints, maintaining an interest in tackling these challenges.
