Product Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and R&D teams throughout the product lifecycle to identify and mitigate legal risks in areas such as AI, intellectual property, privacy, security, open source, and marketing.

• Support commercialization initiatives by providing guidance to Go-To-Market and Business Operations teams on product positioning, licensing models, and regulatory challenges.

• Keep abreast of and interpret developing laws related to AI, privacy, intellectual property, and competition to ensure proactive compliance and alignment with business objectives.

• Create and maintain scalable processes, playbooks, and guidelines to ensure consistent legal support across various teams.

• Aid in the development and management of privacy, security, and AI governance frameworks and audits.

• Function independently while offering pragmatic, business-focused legal advice that aligns with Synthesia’s risk tolerance and strategic goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree and qualified to practice in-house within a relevant jurisdiction.

• Over 7 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years advising on legal issues related to SaaS products; prior experience with generative AI is preferred.

• Strong comprehension of AI/ML technologies and associated legal matters (e.g., intellectual property, privacy, algorithmic accountability).

• In-depth understanding of GDPR and other significant privacy frameworks; experience with biometric data processing or automated decision-making is advantageous.

• Comfortable collaborating with technical teams and translating legal risks into actionable guidance.

• Exceptional written communication abilities, capable of drafting clear and concise messages for diverse audiences.

• Proven track record of managing competing priorities and working independently in a fast-paced setting.
