Principal Trader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Cyprus.

📋 Description

• Develop, manage, and enhance EXANTE’s primary trading book across various asset classes.

• Supply liquidity against client transactions, oversee the resulting inventory, and hedge any residual exposure to generate profit and loss (P&L) within the firm's regulatory framework, ensuring best execution and conflict-of-interest management, while maintaining full P&L accountability for the principal trading book.

• Principal trading book — provide liquidity against client transactions, internalize and aggregate exposures when commercially beneficial, manage inventory, and hedge residual market risk.

• Trading strategies — implement market making, flow trading, relative-value, and other legitimate strategies as identified by the candidate, adhering to Board-approved risk limits.

• Counterparty and execution venues — identify, negotiate, and onboard the necessary exchanges, prime brokers, and OTC counterparties for effective hedging and inventory management.

• Risk management framework — collaborate with the Risk department to design, implement, and manage risk limits, monitoring, and escalation processes for the trading book.

• Stock Lending cooperation — work with the existing Stock Lending team to coordinate securities inventory, financing, and revenue while minimizing disruptions to that revenue stream.

• Desk cooperation — engage with the Options Trading and Fixed Income & Structured Products desks to ensure complementary principal books and shared risk visibility.

• Operations and platform — collaborate with Operations, Treasury, and Technology on workflow, financing, settlement, and platform tools.

• Conflict and best execution — manage conflicts of interest, best-execution arrangements, and product-governance compliance across relevant booking entities (MiFID II, FCA, SFC, and equivalent regimes).

• Team build-out — determine the size, composition, and timing of new hires as the trading book expands, in alignment with the approved business plan.

⛳️ Requirements

• 10–20 years of experience in principal trading, flow trading, market making, or managing a multi-asset trading book at a sell-side firm, broker-dealer, prime broker, or proprietary trading firm, with documented P&L across various market conditions.

• Multi-asset risk management — strong expertise in delta, gamma, vega, correlation, liquidity, and counterparty risk.

• Regulatory expertise — hands-on knowledge of the MiFID II Systematic Internaliser regime, best-execution obligations, and conflict-of-interest management in a regulated broker-dealer setting is essential.

• Securities financing — familiarity with securities financing and stock lending operations is a significant advantage.

• Cooperative profile — essential; success in this role hinges on close collaboration with the existing Stock Lending team and new trading desks, with a proven history of effective operation across desks and functions expected.

• Fluent English — required.

• Commercially minded and disciplined — technically adept, with comfort in taking full responsibility for a P&L.
