This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish the long-term technical vision and roadmap for Pricing, ensuring alignment with Upstart’s business goals.
• Spearhead the design and development of a system that consistently optimizes the matching of supply and demand within Upstart’s borrower-lender marketplace.
• Collaborate closely with ML scientists to enhance and create new models that boost core business metrics.
• Steer the architectural advancement of Pricing engineering systems, focusing on scaling innovation across various engineering teams.
• Identify and drive consensus across intricate technical requirements, designs, trade-offs, and influence product direction.
• Actively assess, prototype, and implement new technologies/frameworks to foster a culture of innovation.
• Lead proactively while mentoring and developing technical leaders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline (or its equivalent) along with 8 years of experience.
• Proven experience in constructing highly scalable systems utilizing containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in developing flexible, extensible, and consistent APIs.
• Strong understanding of software development principles and best practices for creating scalable, extensible, and maintainable systems.
• Proficient in one or more object-oriented programming languages including Python, Java, C#, or C++.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex business and technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• A successful history of mentoring and developing technical leaders.
• Experience in fast-paced and dynamic organizational environments.
• Ability to reconcile business needs with engineering improvement requirements.
• A passion for clean code and architecture, along with the initiative to elevate the engineering team through improved practices and design.
• Capable of leading and resolving company-wide technical discussions while collaborating and incorporating input from cross-functional teams (security, devops, data, compliance, and product).
• Strong sense for build-vs-buy decisions, with the capacity to prioritize architectural investments that yield the highest return on investment.
