Principal Software Engineer – Developer Tools

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for a key product within the MariaDB developer tools portfolio. Spearhead its development, testing, and build processes utilizing AI coding agents.

• Develop APIs, SDKs, and AI agent capabilities that create a magical experience for developers building on MariaDB.

• Ensure smooth integration with contemporary, AI-driven development workflows, encompassing popular frameworks, IDEs, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Construct and enhance the interfaces that database administrators (DBAs) and developers utilize to engage with our products.

• Collaborate closely with various teams at MariaDB to deliver the most integrated solutions for developers and DBAs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering and product ownership, particularly in developer tools, database technologies, or infrastructure-as-a-service.

• A strong passion for producing excellent, production-level code and an understanding of what differentiates an indispensable tool from a nuisance.

• Ability to engage in in-depth discussions on SQL optimization, distributed systems, or the complexities of MariaDB.

• Experience applying modern development techniques to complex, large-scale codebases, and utilizing AI agents for significant refactoring, feature implementation, and testing tasks.

• Comprehension of the unique dynamics of Open Source and the ability to create tools that will be embraced and contributed to by the community.

• Extensive knowledge of the MariaDB Server or MySQL ecosystems.

• Background in high-availability and scaling tools such as MaxScale or in-memory computing platforms like GridGain.

• Proficient in C++, Python, and TypeScript with a thorough understanding of how they interact with data layers.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-provider Database as a Service (DBaaS) offerings.
