Principal Software Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Direct the architecture and solutions for the Beacon Datastore in collaboration with engineering and product leaders as well as Datastore stakeholders.

• Shape architectural standards across Platform teams.

• Develop features that exemplify best practices.

• Mentor team members and enhance their skills.

• Maintain high standards for data integrity, design quality, and maintainability.

• Create RFCs for intricate feature discovery and technical design stages.

• Gather and integrate feedback to foster consensus on development choices.

• Work alongside product and technical leads from platform and scientific teams.

• Influence architectural direction and standards within Platform teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of backend development experience, with substantial expertise in data engineering, data platforms, and infrastructure for data-oriented applications.

• Strong command of SQL.

• Practical experience with PostgreSQL.

• Proficient with data streaming and event processing tools like Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.

• Strong skills in a modern general-purpose programming language.

• Ability and eagerness to quickly learn SQL, TypeScript, and Julia; familiarity with the specific stack of the Datastore is not mandatory.

• Experience with, or interest in, LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools in a production environment.

• Good judgment regarding the appropriate use of guardrails for LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools.

• Experience in deploying and managing services in containerized environments.

• Understanding of Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.

• A collaborative mindset and ability to work across various disciplines.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in asynchronous and remote-friendly settings.
