Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Oversee comprehensive software delivery encompassing architecture design, hands-on development, testing, deployment, documentation, and production support for our e-commerce platform.

• Act as a technical mentor and guide for engineers at various levels, facilitating code reviews, technical decision-making, and skill enhancement.

• Collaborate with Product Design and Engineering leadership to implement scalable, user-centric features that enhance business value.

• Advocate for modern engineering methodologies, including clean architecture, unit testing, automation, performance optimization, and observability.

• Spearhead essential initiatives as a technical leader, occasionally steering a small team of engineers from concept through to delivery.

• Shape architectural strategies and propose enhancements that improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

• Generate high-quality documentation, including Technical Requirements Documents (TRDs), diagrams, technical instructions, and onboarding materials.

• Manage reliability monitoring, alerting, and incident response for mission-critical systems.

• Keep abreast of emerging technologies and contribute to innovation and ongoing enhancement within the engineering organization.

• Recognize opportunities to simplify legacy components, mitigate technical debt, and achieve long-term efficiency improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Over 10 years of professional software development experience, particularly within the e-commerce sector.

• Proficiency in Java Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Node.js.

• Strong front-end development skills with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React.

• Extensive knowledge of software architecture, distributed systems, and design patterns.

• Proficient in at least one core backend programming language, such as Java, Python, or C#.

• Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and delivering production-grade software.

• Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL.

• Familiarity with NoSQL or document-oriented databases.

• Practical skills with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with AWS or GCP and cloud-native architecture.

• Exceptional communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
