Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction for the Athena clearing house by making crucial architectural decisions regarding data validation pipelines, customer entitlement systems, workflow orchestration, upstream reconciliation, OSV publication, and coalition interfaces. Expand the team and the product area.

• Define and lead the transition from rapid prototyping to a robust, production-ready product stack that includes observability, incident management, and operational discipline.

• Collaborate with staff engineers to create domain ownership and technical standards within the team.

• Direct the design of systems that process unstructured vulnerability reports from enterprise clients, eliminate duplicate findings, and present clear signals to the library remediation team.

• Identify and eliminate technical debt that was introduced during the team's rapid prototyping phase.

• Act as a strategic partner on build-vs-buy decisions, capacity planning, and long-term architectural commitments.

• Contribute to a hiring standard that attracts engineers capable of maintaining high productivity without experiencing burnout.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in setting technical direction for complex, production-facing distributed systems, elevating the entire team's capabilities.

• Strong proficiency in Go, with experience in GCP and Terraform being essential; polyglot engineers who can quickly adapt to new technology stacks are encouraged to apply.

• Ability to work with complex, unstructured data to validate, deduplicate, and extract signals from real-world enterprise inputs.

• Experience in transitioning teams from rapidly developed prototypes to sustainable systems, including monitoring, alerting, SLOs, and on-call responsibilities.

• Experience building systems that accommodate various customer types with differing entitlements, access levels, and interaction patterns.

• Comfort in operating across the entire backend stack, including workflows, data pipelines, and APIs, with minimal supervision required.

• Insightful opinions on cost-effective AI utilization and resource allocation are advantageous.

• Previous experience in security-related domains (such as supply chain, vulnerability management, or cloud security) is preferred.
