• Lead the comprehensive design process for Life360's range of devices, including Tile, Pet GPS, and other hardware products. This position transforms insights and strategies into sophisticated, scalable experiences that encompass both physical and digital interactions.
• Gain a profound understanding of the device ecosystem, hardware limitations, companion app interactions, and user mental models, designing experiences that feel fluid whether a member is using the Life360 app, the web, or engaging with a physical device.
• Oversee the in-app experience related to how users set up, manage, and derive value from their devices within Life360.
• Spearhead early-stage design by quickly prototyping hardware-software interaction concepts using AI-native and standard design tools to test innovative experiences efficiently.
• Illustrate and storyboard end-to-end user journeys across both physical and digital experiences—from unboxing to daily usage—and convert them into visual representations for stakeholders’ quick feedback.
• Create design frameworks and interaction models that minimize friction during device setup, management, and troubleshooting processes.
• Develop scalable patterns that harmonize the device experience across various form factors and platforms.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Brand, Research, Hardware, and Industrial Design teams to produce high-quality outcomes and influence strategy with a robust design perspective.
• Share insights and solutions at both individual contributor and executive levels that inform the devices roadmap and business strategy.
• Mentor and guide fellow designers, exemplifying exceptional craftsmanship, curiosity, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Advocate for a design-driven culture and innovation by drawing inspiration from consumer hardware, IoT, and connected product domains.
• Over 10 years of experience in designing mobile-first, consumer-oriented products — preferably encompassing hardware companion apps, IoT, or connected device ecosystems.
• Proven experience designing across both physical and digital touchpoints, with a solid understanding of how hardware limitations influence software user experience decisions.
• Familiarity with device lifecycle stages — unboxing, onboarding, setup, troubleshooting, and ongoing engagement — and the ability to design for each with clarity and delight.
• Strong UI/UX design skills with a portfolio showcasing sophisticated, data-driven solutions to intricate cross-platform or hardware-software challenges.
• Experience designing for and with AI-enhanced experiences, particularly in the context of ambient, location-aware, or sensor-driven products.
• Proficient in rapid prototyping, with a focus on exploration and iteration, and a demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between concepts and scalable, market-ready products.
• Experience with design partner programs or maintaining systems of continuous feedback with early-access customers, hardware betas, or device pilot programs is a plus.
• Exceptional communication and storytelling skills. Capable of translating technical hardware realities into engaging user-centered narratives and influencing across various functions and levels.
• A systems thinker with a history of creating scalable frameworks that work seamlessly across different form factors, platforms, and product lines.
