Principal Investigator, Terrestrial Archaeology - Caribbean

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Puerto Rico.

📋 Description

• Uphold a professional image at all times for our clients, colleagues, media, and the general public.

• Engage in decision-making related to the company's research priorities and provide insights on the feasibility of potential projects.

• Cultivate business and client relationships for SEARCH.

• Establish SEARCH protocols and procedures pertaining to field methods, laboratory analyses, and report preparation.

• Draft proposals for review by Sector Leaders and Management.

• Create research designs, outline the research procedures to be followed, and identify or train junior staff to conduct research.

• Organize and supervise fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting activities in alignment with the project's Scope of Work, budget, and timeline.

• Produce thoroughly researched, comprehensive, and defensible resource evaluations that meet the National Register of Historic Places eligibility criteria in accordance with 36 CFR §60.4 and relevant National Park Service guidelines.

• Assist Project Managers in ensuring project delivery is timely and within budget.

• Collaborate with the SEARCH Health & Safety Officer to develop a Health & Safety plan for each assigned project and ensure compliance.

• Communicate project resource requirements to Project Managers, Sector Leaders, Directors, and Management as necessary.

• Conduct primary research utilizing laboratory equipment, computer resources, and institutional libraries.

• Offer expertise in the field of research to SEARCH colleagues.

• Prepare reports and papers of completed projects for publication in technical journals, presentation to regulatory agencies or conferences, or for further research activities, pending approval from the Client and SEARCH Management.

• Perform other duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree in Anthropology or a related discipline.

• At least five (5) years of supervisory experience that includes time in the field, laboratory, and office environments.

• Must satisfy the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualifications standards for archaeology and either be a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or be eligible for RPA status.

• Proficient knowledge of local and federal laws and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources management.

• Extensive experience in Caribbean archaeology.

• Proven ability to support projects efficiently and cost-effectively.

• Demonstrated capability to manage cultural resource studies in a timely and economical manner.

• Strong client management abilities.

• Exceptional technical writing skills to create high-quality technical reports and prepare compelling proposals.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Permitted or qualified for agency permitting if necessary.

• ****Preferred Qualifications:**

• Familiarity with the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) industry (including firms, clients, contracts, new research, and projects) on statewide, regional, national, and global scales.

• Residence in Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands.
