Principal Investigator – Terrestrial Archaeology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Offer specialized knowledge on field strategies, research methodologies, and regulatory standards at the local, regional, and federal levels.

• Design research frameworks and assemble research teams.

• Supervise research activities, fieldwork, data analysis, report generation, and other responsibilities to ensure adherence to research objectives, budgets, timelines, and contractual obligations for each project.

• Suggest and implement cutting-edge technology and methodologies.

• Act as the principal author and researcher for technical documentation.

• Guarantee the quality of research, uphold research integrity, and ensure original authorship of all project outputs.

• Create research articles, papers, and presentations for academic and industry conferences.

• Carry out field visits and engage in occasional archaeological fieldwork.

• Develop project proposals, cost assessments, and timelines.

• Provide training and mentorship to archaeologists and report writers.

• Uphold the highest levels of professional standards.

• Maintain strong relationships within the project team.

• Cultivate and manage relationships with agencies and clients.

• Communicate project updates to the project team, company leadership, and clients.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a graduate degree in Anthropology or a related discipline.

• Reside in or be willing to relocate to New Mexico.

• Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience that includes fieldwork, laboratory work, and office management.

• Must satisfy the Secretary of the Interior’s professional qualifications for archaeology and be an RPA or be eligible for RPA certification.

• In-depth knowledge of state and federal laws and guidelines related to cultural resources management.

• Extensive archaeological experience in Arizona and/or New Mexico.

• Hold or be eligible for NM BLM and Statelands permits.

• Proven capability to support projects efficiently and cost-effectively.

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing cultural resource studies within budget and timeline constraints.

• Excellent client management abilities.

• Exceptional technical writing skills to produce high-quality technical reports and compelling proposals.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
