Principal Engineer – Systems Protection, Relay Settings

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Execute Protective Relay Design and Coordination: Design, specify, calculate settings, and coordinate protective relays and relay control schemes.

• Conduct modeling, short circuit, and overstressed breaker studies along with protective relaying recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to a client's electrical system.

• Ensure that all relay setting activities, initiatives, and processes align with the company's established policies and objectives as well as client design standards.

• Present technical solutions to key customers with confidence and clarity, addressing technical concerns and answering questions in a knowledgeable manner.

• Collaborate effectively with relevant groups and individuals within Qualus to develop and implement technical solutions that support the Engineering Department's objectives.

• Manage and support multiple projects simultaneously.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a focus on power systems.

• A Master's Degree in engineering may be accepted in place of the Bachelor's degree in engineering.

• International engineering degrees from an ABET accredited institution will be considered.

• 12+ years of experience in protection and control engineering and relay settings.

• Proven experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN is required.

• Professional Engineering (PE) registration is mandatory.

• PE registration in the working state is an advantage.

• Strong analytical and computer skills are essential.

• Ability to identify necessary software for completing required design work.

• A strong commitment to customer service and care is necessary.

• Highly motivated self-starter.

• Demonstrated multitasking abilities.

• Excellent document management and organizational skills.

• Familiarity with CYME, reclosers/sectionalizing schemes, and fuse coordination is preferred.
