This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Oversee engineering initiatives for plant Power Uprate projects, which encompass feasibility assessments, system analyses, and comprehensive design.
• Serve as the principal technical authority on Power Uprate strategies, methodologies, and the impacts on systems.
• Mentor and guide engineering personnel in the analysis and modeling of electrical systems.
• Conduct and supervise detailed calculations for electrical power systems, including: Load flow (power flow) analysis, Short circuit and fault current assessments, Arc flash hazard evaluations, Motor starting and dynamic system evaluations, and Protective device coordination studies.
• Assess the capacity and limitations of electrical systems to accommodate Power Uprate conditions.
• Analyze the effects of increased generation on: Switchgear ratings, Transformers, Transmission interconnections, and Auxiliary power systems.
• Ensure all calculations align with relevant codes and standards (IEEE, NFPA 70E, NEC, NERC, etc.).
• Create, maintain, and validate ETAP models (or equivalent power system software) for the plant's electrical systems.
• Utilize ETAP to simulate Power Uprate scenarios and evaluate system performance under normal, contingency, and transient conditions.
• Guarantee model accuracy through field data validation, system inspections, and configuration management.
• Generate and review reports based on ETAP to support engineering decisions, regulatory submissions, and design modifications.
• Develop and evaluate engineering calculations, analyses, and design changes related to Power Uprate implementation.
• Assist in project planning, scheduling, and risk management tasks.
• Ensure projects are completed within the designated timeframe, budget, and scope requirements.
• Maintain auditable engineering documentation and calculations.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, transmission planning, and design engineering teams.
• Facilitate outage planning and execution for modifications to the electrical system.
• Engage with vendors, consultants, and external engineering firms for specialized studies.
• Evaluate plant systems (thermal, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation & control) for their capability and constraints regarding Power Uprate.
• Identify necessary upgrades or modifications to facilitate increased output.
• Conduct or supervise system performance modeling and integration analyses across different departments.
• Ensure compliance of all Power Uprate activities with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., NRC, FERC, NERC, IEEE standards).
• Prepare and support licensing submissions, technical documentation, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
• Identify technical risks related to Power Uprate and electrical system modifications and formulate mitigation strategies.
• Ensure adherence to electrical safety standards, including arc flash and protection studies.
• Foster a strong safety culture and maintain engineering rigor.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field.
• Over 8 years of engineering experience in power generation, utilities, or heavy industry.
• Proven experience conducting power system studies and electrical calculations.
• Practical experience with ETAP (or equivalent tools such as SKM, PSCAD, PowerWorld, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems and grid interconnections in plants.
• Leadership experience in managing complex technical projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.
• Experience in supporting plant Power Uprates or significant capacity modifications.
• Expertise in arc flash, protection coordination, and short circuit analysis.
• Familiarity with nuclear or large fossil/hydro generation environments.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting electrical systems (NERC compliance, licensing).
• Advanced analytical capabilities in power system modeling and simulation.
• Proficiency in ETAP or similar electrical analysis platforms.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
