Principal Engineer, iOS Performance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for Reddit’s iOS Mobile App and scale it to accommodate the next 100M+ Daily Active Users (DAUs). Propose innovative ideas and solutions to achieve our goal of making Reddit’s Mobile Apps top-tier.

• Identify shortcomings in our existing iOS App Architecture and spearhead the redesign of the iOS platform to enhance modularity, performance, and overall quality.

• Define, evaluate, and implement key user-centric performance objectives, particularly focusing on reducing the App Not Responding (ANR) rate, decreasing app launch time (Time to Interactive/TTFF), and eliminating slow or dropped frames.

• Enhance observability and strengthen data quality across all critical performance metrics, which includes establishing trustworthy telemetry, monitoring, and safeguards for ANR rate, app launch time, and slow/dropped frames.

• Foster a performance-driven culture throughout the company, ensuring that every iOS engineer at Reddit possesses the necessary tools and expertise to manage the performance of their product surfaces.

• Guide and mentor iOS developers across the organization.

• Serve as the primary resource for developers facing complex challenges in iOS development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience-based knowledge of building mobile applications at scale.

• You are a strategic thinker who excels at establishing a long-term technical foundation and has a strong passion for creating scalable, well-crafted software that enhances lives globally.

• Over 10 years of software development experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on designing and developing iOS applications.

• Proven ability to influence larger organizations (200+ engineers) regarding technical direction and best practices related to iOS.

• Familiarity with modern iOS development frameworks, including Swift UI and structured Concurrency.

• A strong passion for developing scalable, well-designed software that positively impacts people’s lives worldwide.

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as design, product, and data teams to deliver exceptional user experiences.

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.
