Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Define and shape the architecture of Masabi’s platform, establishing blueprints, standards, and best practices.

• Design and implement scalable, resilient, and cost-effective services that align with the platform blueprint.

• Maintain a hands-on approach in coding and technical delivery, including conducting reviews and making targeted contributions.

• Identify and address complex platform challenges related to scalability, performance, resilience, and cost management.

• Serve as a senior technical advisor across engineering teams, providing support and influencing technical decisions to ensure adherence to Masabi standards.

• Contribute to the planning and prioritization of the technical roadmap for platform improvements.

• Assist in RFP estimation and technical scoping for intricate initiatives.

• Create clear, high-quality technical documentation and architectural artifacts.

• Enhance the understanding and application of architecture across engineering and the broader business.

• Participate in and help shape technical forums and working groups, focusing on areas such as API and architecture governance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in designing and evolving distributed systems and microservices architectures.

• Experience operating at a Principal or Staff level, influencing technical direction across multiple teams or domains.

• Ability to remain hands-on, contributing to code, design, and delivery when necessary.

• Strong background with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and modern infrastructure practices.

• Experience with systems where scale, reliability, performance, and cost trade-offs are critical, and the ability to navigate those decisions thoughtfully.

• Proven experience in data architecture, including data platforms, pipelines, warehousing, or data lakes.

• Capability to transform loosely defined (early-stage) business or technical problems into clear, actionable technical strategies.

• Proficient in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively, producing structured documentation that aids both technical and non-technical audiences in decision-making.

• Contributions to engineering standards, architectural patterns, or platform direction are valued.

• Interest in or exposure to AI-enabled systems, particularly regarding their architectural implications in production.
