This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of the architecture and intricate technical aspects of our engineering-quality initiatives, including workflow testing, mutation testing (Stryker), end-to-end testing, our QA agents, and the public API.
• Tackle the most challenging problems across any squad's codebase. Your focus will be on technical accuracy and leverage, transcending team boundaries.
• Establish the technical direction for systems that cut across multiple teams, make architectural decisions of record, and document the associated trade-offs.
• Enhance the technical capabilities of the organization through design reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship for senior engineers.
• Proactively identify systemic technical risks before they escalate into incidents, and lead the resolution efforts.
• Collaborate with the SVP of Engineering on technical strategy, serving as a key technical voice as we define the platform's future.
• Set the benchmark for the responsible use of AI in development: AI-augmented, but with output validation as a non-negotiable principle, and lead by example.
• Over 10 years of experience in building production software, with a proven track record at the staff or principal level.
• Proven ownership of complex, cross-cutting technical challenges, driving them to sustainable solutions—ensuring they are not only delivered but also robust.
• Extensive expertise in testing strategies and engineering-quality infrastructure, including test automation, end-to-end testing, mutation testing, and CI/CD rigor. This is a critical aspect of the role.
• Strong background in architecture and API design; capable of making and defending significant technical trade-offs.
• A history of being a force multiplier—demonstrable evidence that engineers around you have improved measurably due to your influence.
• Ability to influence without authority: you guide technical direction through sound judgment and trust, rather than through reporting structures.
• Experience with SaaS/platform environments; familiarity with payments, IoT, or vertical SaaS is an advantage.
