Principal Engineer, AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of outcomes from start to finish. Be accountable for transforming high-impact opportunities into deployed, widely adopted capabilities with measurable success, iterative improvements, and ongoing enhancements—not just one-off launches.

• Determine the AI technical trajectory for your organization.

• Lead the decision-making process between building and buying. Advise on when to collaborate on models and tools versus when to develop unique capabilities.

• Lead through execution. Quickly prototype and deliver reference implementations to validate feasibility.

• Assist in constructing the paved highway. Contribute to shared foundations—such as evaluation tools, retrieval and context patterns, safety measures, observability, and developer experience.

• Elevate standards across your organization. Guide senior and staff engineers, oversee design reviews within your teams, and help set quality and safety benchmarks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Foundational AI Expertise: You have a deep understanding of why models may fail, informed by experiences that predate the LLM surge.

• 8+ Years of Engineering Excellence: You have taken end-to-end ownership of large, mission-critical systems.

• Architectural Strategy: Experience in developing architectural strategies at the organizational level.

• Mentorship and Recruitment: A proven history of mentoring senior and staff engineers, enhancing their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness.

• Production AI at Scale: A successful history of delivering AI-driven products to production environments.

• Nice-to-haves: Early career experience in model training, fine-tuning, classical machine learning, or natural language processing.
