Principal Data Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and execute comprehensive data architecture that encompasses application CDC, streaming, schema design, transformation, warehouse/mart modeling, and consumption readiness, utilizing IaC and an automation-first approach.

• Develop robust multi-region database and replication frameworks with automated failover and disaster recovery capabilities.

• Create streaming pipelines prioritizing correctness, replayability, and schema evolution as essential elements.

• Model, document, and catalog marts to enable downstream self-service analytics and customer-facing consumption.

• Establish monitoring, alerting, and data-quality observability throughout data platform services.

• Oversee PII classification, lineage, access controls, and encryption in collaboration with the Security team.

• Guide engineers and define architectural standards within the data platform discipline.

• Consider compute and storage expenditures as key design factors.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps, with a proven history at the Staff or Principal IC level.

• Demonstrated ability to build large-scale distributed data systems in a production environment.

• Extensive hands-on experience with cloud technologies (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP experience is transferable) alongside IaC and CI/CD (Terraform or equivalent).

• Strong foundation in SQL and data modeling principles across streaming and relational/warehouse patterns.

• Practical experience with at least one orchestration tool and one streaming/ingestion framework.

• Background in designing cross-regional database replication architectures, considering failover and consistency trade-offs.

• Expertise in warehouse and mart modeling including a transformation/semantic layer (dbt or similar).

• Proficient in Python, Go, or comparable languages for automation and tooling.

• Proven ability to manage ambiguous, cross-team issues from inception to delivery.
