This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +2 more countries.
• Lead the design and advancement of our data platform, influencing how data is ingested, modeled, governed, and utilized throughout the organization.
• Take ownership of data architecture and schema design, making structural choices that benefit AI products, analytics, and operational users over time.
• Establish the technical vision for the data engineering team, setting standards for quality, reliability, and readiness for production.
• Promote data governance at an engineering level, focusing on data quality, lineage, ownership, and cataloging.
• Develop data infrastructure on AWS utilizing Terraform, ensuring consistency and reproducibility across various environments.
• Collaborate with the AI engineering team to prepare the data platform for AI needs: ensuring it is clean, structured, and scalable.
• Mentor and cultivate data engineers, creating a resilient team capability that is not reliant on any single individual.
• Contribute to strategic technical decisions and collaborate closely with the Head of AI on the direction of the platform.
• Extensive experience in data engineering or roles related to data platforms.
• Demonstrated experience with Apache Iceberg or comparable modern table formats in production settings.
• Strong proficiency in dbt for constructing and maintaining transformation layers at scale.
• Practical experience with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Athena, and associated tools).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Profound expertise in data architecture and schema design within complex, multi-domain environments.
• Proven history of leading a data engineering team or function and elevating the technical standards.
• Ability to influence the technical direction across teams without direct authority.
• Nice to Have: Experience in developing data platforms that cater to AI or ML workloads.
• Familiarity with data cataloging and governance tools.
• Background in compliance-heavy or multi-jurisdictional data environments (such as payroll, HR, finance, or similar).
• Experience with event-driven or streaming data architectures.
