Principal Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and enhance scalable data engineering solutions, incorporating streaming data services, data pipelines, data platforms, and operational data systems.

• Act as a proactive technical leader, directly involved in developing and executing data engineering solutions instead of solely serving as an architect.

• Establish and promote data engineering standards, patterns, best practices, and reusable frameworks.

• Architect and deploy highly intricate, scalable data platforms and advanced data engineering solutions.

• Spearhead complex, high-impact, cross-functional data initiatives throughout the organization.

• Develop and maintain streaming and data services for enterprise applications, with expertise that extends beyond merely utilizing existing platforms.

• Implement and uphold data governance, security, data quality, and data management standards.

• Ensure that enterprise data platforms are dependable, well-structured, accessible, secure, and optimized for extensive utilization.

• Propel innovation and modernization efforts across data platforms, engineering methodologies, and cloud-based data services.

• Collaborate with senior leadership, architects, product teams, and engineering teams on long-term data strategy and roadmap development.

• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders throughout the organization.

• Assess and incorporate emerging technologies to enhance enterprise data capabilities.

• Guarantee scalability, performance, resilience, and long-term viability of data platforms.

• Advocate for continuous improvement and enhance engineering practices across teams.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, such as Information Systems, Mathematics, or Software Engineering, or a comparable combination of training and experience.

• Over 10 years of data engineering experience.

• AWS Engineer certification or equivalent AWS certification is required.

• Expert-level skills in Python, Spark, SQL, and contemporary data architectures.

• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS and distributed data systems.

• Demonstrated experience in constructing streaming data solutions, data services, and scalable data platforms, rather than merely utilizing existing platforms as a consumer.

• In-depth knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT, data platform design, and operational data stores.

• Proven experience with batch and streaming data integration at an enterprise level.

• Strong background in data governance, data quality, security standards, and data management practices.

• Hands-on experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Proficiency across modern data platforms and cloud ecosystems.

• Demonstrated capability to define, influence, and implement enterprise-wide technical direction and engineering standards.

• Proven history of leading enterprise-scale data transformations and initiatives.

• Exceptional leadership, mentoring, and organizational influence skills.

• Strong communication abilities with the aptitude to advise executive stakeholders, collaborate with architects, and drive technical decisions.
