Principal AI/ML Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Lead the Technical Strategy & Architecture: Collaborate with clients to comprehend their fundamental business challenges and devise sophisticated, scalable solutions utilizing machine learning, search, and agentic AI frameworks.

• Manage Client Engagements: Act as the primary technical liaison for client stakeholders, simplifying intricate concepts, managing expectations, and guaranteeing project success from both technical and business standpoints.

• Lead & Mentor Engineering Teams: Direct a team of skilled ML engineers, promoting a culture of excellence, providing technical guidance, and assuming ultimate responsibility for project delivery.

• Drive Innovation: Go beyond traditional ML to design and implement groundbreaking agentic workflows, agent-based modeling, multi-agent systems, and complex RAG pipelines that produce transformative outcomes.

• Oversee the Complete Project Lifecycle: Guide projects from initial discovery and architectural design to deployment, monitoring, and iteration, ensuring that solutions are robust, efficient, and ready for production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in machine learning and software engineering, with a proven history of architecting and delivering large-scale, production-ready AI/ML systems.

• Extensive client-facing experience is a must. You should be comfortable and effective in a consulting or architectural capacity, capable of leading technical discussions with C-level executives and engineering teams.

• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills. You have successfully directed engineering teams and overseen the technical delivery of intricate software projects.

• In-depth expertise in Python and its data science ecosystem (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn).

• Expert-level comprehension of modern AI systems. You possess significant, practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic design patterns (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph), and classical ML at scale, with the ability to speak authoritatively on subjects such as Learning to Rank (LTR), recommender algorithms, RAG, and fine-tuning.

• Strong architectural background in software engineering, MLOps, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP). You understand how to design for scalability, reliability, and low-latency.

• A BSc/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience that showcases your deep expertise.
