This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of applied AI and ML solutions in the mental healthcare sector.
• Enhance search ranking, relevance, and the matching process between patients and providers.
• Develop personalization and recommendation strategies.
• Oversee foundational ML platforms that support AI solutions at scale.
• Create advanced recommendation engines and retrieval models.
• Implement NLP and generative AI within clinical workflows.
• Establish technical standards for AI safety.
• Make key decisions regarding the integration of machine learning in high-stakes environments.
• Design and refine Learning-to-Rank models, embeddings, recommendation algorithms, and LLMs.
• Architect product-facing AI systems and core ML infrastructure.
• Resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Serve as a technical multiplier for engineers across various product areas.
• Release applied AI features that enhance match quality and user experience.
• Build scalable and robust AI foundations.
• Set strategic direction for relevance, recommendation systems, and the overall AI ecosystem.
• Enhance patient outcomes through responsible application of ML.
• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.
• More than 7 years of experience in designing and scaling distributed systems.
• At least 5 years of experience in building and deploying production-grade ML applications.
• Minimum of 5 years spent building and optimizing search, ranking, relevance, or recommendation engines at scale.
• Extensive experience with Learning-to-Rank, collaborative filtering, deep recommender systems, or semantic vector search.
• At least 5 years of programming experience in Python and one backend language, preferably TypeScript, Java, or Go.
• Over 2 years of experience in developing AI-powered products using foundation models like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini.
• Familiarity with LLM integration methods such as RAG and agents.
• Proven track record with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
• Demonstrated experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, or Milvus.
• More than 3 years of experience with MLOps, data pipelines, and rigorous evaluation systems.
• Knowledge of offline metrics such as NDCG/MAP and online A/B testing.
• Capability to define technical strategy and steer the broader AI/ML infrastructure ecosystem.
• Must reside in the United States; Rula does not currently hire in Hawaii.
• Preferred: experience with secure and compliant AI solutions in regulated environments, including HIPAA and GDPR.
• Preferred: development of human-in-the-loop systems and clinical decision support frameworks.
• Preferred: creation of evaluation pipelines for human alignment, factual accuracy, or model interpretability.
• Preferred: contributions to open-source AI frameworks or applied research in NLP, healthcare AI, or GenAI safety.
• Preferred: experience in early-stage team growth.
• Preferred: experience in leading or mentoring engineering teams in AI, ML platforms, or applied research domains.
