Platform Engineer, Database Reliability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Ensure the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of production MySQL environments and essential production infrastructure.

• Oversee and enhance database replication, failover processes, backups, recovery, upgrades, and performance optimization.

• Engage in initiatives related to cloud infrastructure, automation, observability, and operational tooling.

• Assist in infrastructure-as-code and automation projects utilizing Terraform and associated technologies.

• Enhance monitoring, alerting, and operational visibility across various systems and applications.

• Diagnose and resolve database, infrastructure, and application-related issues in production settings.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Platform teams to boost reliability, scalability, operational effectiveness, and preparedness for production.

• Aid in incident response, root cause analysis, and remediation activities.

• Contribute to best practices in operations and ongoing enhancements to the platform.

• Take part in an on-call rotation to support production systems.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure Engineering, Database Reliability, or related fields.

• Extensive experience in managing and supporting production MySQL database infrastructure, including replication, failover, backup/recovery, upgrades, and performance optimization.

• Experience in supporting highly available cloud infrastructure in environments such as GCP.

• Familiarity with or experience in technologies like Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

• Strong background in Linux systems administration, troubleshooting, and incident response.

• Proficient in monitoring, observability, and alerting platforms.

• Experience in scripting or automation using languages such as Bash, Go, Python, JavaScript, or similar.

• Knowledge of security, access management, and operational best practices.

• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible is a plus.

• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capable of working independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities and a focus on reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement.
