Paleontologist – On-call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western United States.

• Capability to perform taxonomic classification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils up to genus or species level for various projects.

• Expertise in field monitoring operations is essential.

• Strong skills in concise writing, research, and data management are required.

• Candidates must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork across the Western United States.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related discipline, such as geology or biology.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent education focused on paleontological fieldwork and technical reporting.

• Outdoor work may involve walking or trekking across uneven terrain for extended periods in extreme weather conditions.

• A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory for this position, and candidates must be able to travel to job sites safely.

• U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

• An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology, or a related field like geology or biology, is preferred.

• At least 6 years of relevant experience in paleontology is required.

• Candidates may also be qualified in Archaeology.

• A strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is necessary.

• Knowledge of the regional geology of the Western U.S. is important.

• Ability to lead the recovery of fossil specimens in the field.

• Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency in reading topographic, geological, and project maps is essential.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients is required.
