Paleontologist, On-call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Experience in paleontological fieldwork within the Western United States.

• Capable of providing taxonomic identification of vertebrate and/or invertebrate fossils at the genus or species level for various projects.

• Expertise in overseeing field monitoring operations is required.

• Proficient writing, research, and data management abilities are essential.

• Candidates must be willing to travel and perform fieldwork throughout the Western United States.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in paleontology or a related field such as geology or biology is required.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalent in experience and/or education focusing on paleontological fieldwork and technical reporting.

• Outdoor activities may necessitate walking or trekking across uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather for extended periods.

• A valid U.S. driver's license is mandatory for this position, and candidates must be capable of safely traveling to job sites.

• U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

• An M.S. or Ph.D. in Paleontology or a related field such as geology or biology is preferred.

• Over 6 years of relevant experience in paleontology is essential.

• Candidates may also have qualifications in Archaeology.

• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is necessary.

• Familiarity with the regional geology of the Western U.S. is important.

• Ability to supervise the field recovery of fossil specimens is required.

• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency in reading topographic maps, geological maps, and project maps is needed.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and clients is essential.
