Paediatric Virtual Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner – Full-Time, Regular

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Deliver care through rapid assessment emergency department diversion clinics and a nurse practitioner-led Virtual Urgent Care Clinic.

• Enhance patient access and flow by fully utilizing skills to avert unnecessary emergency room visits and/or reduce the duration of ER stays.

• Assess patients, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests and imaging, refer to specialists, and coordinate care with subspecialists.

• Offer continuous education, counseling, and guidance to patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

• Collaborate closely with community partners, including 811 (formerly Telehealth).

• Recognize opportunities for quality improvement by developing policies, procedures, and patient care initiatives that align with best practices and relevant Canadian guidelines.

• Function both independently and as part of a team in accordance with professional practice standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active registration in the extended class and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

• Minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience with a clinical emphasis in primary or acute care; pediatric experience is preferred.

• Current membership in the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario or the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

• Valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification: BLS-HCP (C).

• Strong clinical reasoning abilities.

• Capability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Comprehensive understanding of the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.

• Availability to work from 1:00pm to 9:00pm, Monday through Sunday, including holidays in a virtual setting.

• Recent experience working with external agencies and community partners is preferred.

• Ability to build effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

• Proficiency in critical thinking, clinical problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Proven excellence in clinical practice.

• Demonstrated commitment to patient- and family-centered care.

• Strong self-awareness, insight, and self-management skills consistent with high emotional intelligence.

• Ability to communicate assertively and effectively in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.

• Demonstrated experience and leadership in education and research.

• Proven ability to demonstrate empathy while maintaining productive relationships.

• Adaptability to changing clinical situations and multiple demands.

• The successful candidate must undergo a criminal background check and medical screening.

• Must possess a Social Insurance Number and, in some cases, a valid work permit.
