Outside Plant Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Design and strategize external plant facilities for copper and fiber infrastructure (aerial, buried, conduit).

• Prepare and evaluate engineering drawings, loop loss calculations, and switch serving area layouts.

• Conduct field measurements for poles, conduits, and buried infrastructure to support network design.

• Develop project budgets, track actual expenses, and perform job inspections for quality assurance.

• Prepare, organize, and submit permit applications to appropriate agencies.

• Ensure designs comply with permitting regulations and engineering standards.

• Engage with municipal and government officials to coordinate efforts around road projects.

• Collaborate with other utilities to manage relocations, reduce conflicts, and prevent project delays.

• Assist with service orders, subdivision expansions, road relocations, dark fiber MDUs, and more.

• Coordinate with SSP contractors to guarantee timely and budget-conscious project completion.

• Conduct site surveys, assist with PUC complaint investigations, and develop capital projects.

• Maintain records, update engineering files, and manage departmental documentation.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5+ years of practical experience in copper and fiber optic network engineering.

• A minimum of 5 years in network engineering or OSP-related roles, including permitting and fiber record management.

• Proficiency in Ziply engineering tools and systems, such as FROGS, Varasset, and SiteTracker.

• Comprehensive understanding of permitting procedures and OSP construction practices.

• Willingness to travel locally for fieldwork and meetings.

• Preferred candidates should be located in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone.
