Outside Auto Appraiser

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Assess, estimate, negotiate, and evaluate auto physical damage claims from both first- and third-party sources.

• Ensure consistent quality of service throughout the entire claims process.

• Manage assignments and respond promptly to vehicle or equipment locations.

• Evaluate claims and establish physical claim values utilizing recognized resources, estimating tools, and evaluation software.

• Prepare and document appraisals for vehicle/equipment damage along with Actual Cash and Replacement values.

• Collaborate with assigned Claim Professionals from the initial investigation to final recovery.

• Negotiate claim values with customers and repair facilities.

• Determine applicable settlement amounts for total losses, coverages, and deductibles.

• Communicate claim settlements and initiate payments to customers or repair facilities.

• Provide inspection support to other business lines and departments, including catastrophe response efforts.

• Review coverage and apply policy conditions, provisions, exclusions, and endorsements as necessary.

• Oversee the repair process, manage claim and expense reserves, action plans, and diaries.

• Communicate assessments of claim damages following negotiations.

• Obtain authorization to initiate payments.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least one year of experience in auto appraisal.

• A valid driver's license is necessary.

• Candidates must reside within the designated Hunt Valley, Maryland territory.

• Insurance license(s) may be required and should generally be acquired within three months of employment.

• Participation in the Catastrophe Response Program is required, which includes at least 16 days of deployments and unscheduled travel with little notice.

• An Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Technical School Degree is preferred for ideal candidates.

• State appraiser and claim handling licenses may be necessary where applicable.

• Two years of auto appraisal experience is preferred.

• Prior experience with an insurance carrier is advantageous.

• Strong technical foundation and comprehensive knowledge of auto repair techniques, terminology, and construction is essential.

• In-depth knowledge of claims appraisal systems and operations is required.

• Proficiency with Windows applications, including Excel and Word.

• Strong mathematical abilities and negotiation skills are necessary.

• Ability to stay updated on jurisdictional laws and regulations is essential.

• A commitment to ongoing education is required.

• Capable of analytical thinking, making judgments and decisions, effective communication, negotiation, understanding insurance contracts, investigation, value determination, settlement techniques, and auto technical functions.
