This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Accountable for the accurate and timely coding of moderately complex encounters, adhering to established coding standards, CMS regulations, and hospital guidelines.
• Reviews moderately complex medical records to determine the sequence, coding diagnoses, and procedures in line with established coding, CMS, and hospital protocols.
• Responsible for the precise coding of hospital same-day surgeries, observations, ancillary services, ED encounters, and/or professional services.
• Ensures optimal assignment of CPT, ASC, APC, and APG as applicable.
• Possesses understanding and capability to resolve coding-specific edits such as CCI, LCD, NCD, and MUE.
• Supports the OP Clinical Documentation Improvement program.
• Maintains productivity and quality metrics in accordance with established standards.
• Operates within UH Billing timelines.
• Adheres to the Standards of Ethical Coding as delineated by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) (Preferred) or Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
• At least 2 years of experience in ICD-10 CM, PCS, and/or CPT coding (Required)
• Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology (Required)
• Detail-oriented and organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. (Required)
• Self-driven with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. (Required)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Required)
• Demonstrated ability to utilize PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (e.g., printers, copiers, FAX machines, etc.). Must be adept at navigating multiple systems. (Required)
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or Radiology Coding Certification (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC) or Certified Hematology and Oncology Coder (CHONC) (Required Upon Hire)
• Keeps coding knowledge and skills current through written coding resources, clinical information, and educational webinars.
• Annual training, alongside the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures, is established to ensure the appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
