This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Develop optical solutions to address key market demands identified by GSD’s Strategic Intent.
• Discover new opportunities with current and expanding customers to implement MSS capabilities.
• Collaborate with commercial, program management, and site teams to foster growth and satisfy new market requirements in alignment with GSD Strategic Intent, which includes new product development, technology deployment, and scalability assurance.
• Engage directly with customers regarding technical and commercial issues.
• Provide technical expertise and create customer-specific application solutions, encompassing feasibility, cost estimation, and lead time assessments.
• Facilitate system-level discussions by contributing an optical systems perspective.
• Possess a thorough understanding of the capabilities at IDEX’s GSD manufacturing facilities.
• Lead the NPI process for custom-engineered solutions from concept through qualification, quotation, prototype delivery, and transition to Operations for OEM production.
• Convert customer requirements and specifications into manufacturable designs utilizing CAD, coating design, and both COTS and custom optical system simulation tools.
• Represent the GSD Team and its Strategic Intent, consistently demonstrating GSD Team Behaviors to customers and MSS site teams.
• Act as a representative for GS&D at defense industry events, conferences, and trade shows.
• Conduct tolerance analysis and feasibility studies to ensure alignment with IDEX GSD manufacturing capabilities.
• Create detailed technical documentation for prototypes.
• Assist in the prototype-to-production transition at manufacturing sites.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide support for customer returns and complaints.
• Develop, write, and communicate comprehensive multi-site proposals to customers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering (with an optics focus), or a related discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience in optical assembly support; experience with tolerance alignment in defense or space is preferred.
• Proficient in Code V or OpticsStudio and SolidWorks; familiarity with MATLAB/Python is an advantage.
• Practical experience with wavefront measurement, active alignment, and metrology setups.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes for optical components and assemblies.
• Experience in creating technical documentation and specifications.
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable in customer-facing situations.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous environments, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to travel as necessary to meet with customers, attend industry events, and provide site support.
• Must comply with ITAR/EAR requirements (U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or contract-specific licensure).
