Officer, Policy & Advocacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Perform research and analyze the impacts of policies, legislation, and regulatory matters.

• Keep track of government and legislative activities, reporting on how these developments influence Food Banks Canada and its network of food banks.

• Assist in the creation of key reports, such as HungerCount and the Poverty Report Card.

• Prepare briefing documents, reports, policy suggestions, and submissions for consultations.

• Aid in the planning and execution of advocacy initiatives related to food insecurity and poverty.

• Build and sustain relationships with elected officials, political staff, and public servants at the federal level.

• Act as a liaison with policymakers and partners on behalf of Food Banks Canada.

• Maintain consistent communication with provincial associations, offering advice and support on advocacy, policy, and governmental relations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A completed undergraduate degree or equivalent, ideally in political science.

• At least 4 years of relevant experience and/or education.

• Capability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities effectively.

• Excellent communication skills that are clear, professional, and approachable.

• Experience in federal politics is a plus.

• Background in grassroots advocacy and campaign development is beneficial.

• Strong project management abilities.

• Proficient in problem-solving and building relationships.

• High level of attention to detail and accuracy, including strong proofreading capabilities.

• Comprehensive understanding of Canada’s political systems and public policy implementation.

• Bilingualism (English/French) is advantageous.

• Applicants must reside within 100 km of Ottawa, ON.

• Submission of a cover letter, resume, and a writing sample of policy is required for application.
