Office Coding Specialist – Family Medicine

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding across four or more specialties for various clients or facilities.

• Code Professional Fee, Facility, HCC, or Inpatient services.

• Provide coding services to support clients effectively.

• Calculate Professional Fee and/or Facility E/M levels utilizing the company algorithm.

• Identify critical care cases based on patient acuity.

• Code surgical procedures common in an ER setting to capture additional revenue when appropriate.

• Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes with the highest possible specificity.

• Accurately apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Interpret coding guidelines to ensure accurate code assignment.

• Recognize the significance of documentation and its impact on reimbursement.

• Maintain quality and productivity standards consistently.

• Communicate professionally with clients to build effective working relationships.

• Assist Leadership or the Lead Coding Specialist with reports as required.

• Potentially support auditing processes.

• Align conduct with AHIMA ethical coding standards along with company ethics and compliance requirements.

• Adhere to internal policies and procedures diligently.

• Engage in company-sponsored training and education.

• Safeguard confidential information and personal health information.

• Execute other duties as assigned by leadership.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of working experience in family medicine, multi-specialty, ortho, or professional fee coding.

• Experience in optometry coding is an advantage.

• CPC certification is mandatory.

• All coders must hold certification from either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P).

• At least 2 years of relevant experience required.

• Advanced knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook is essential.

• Access to current CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references is necessary.

• Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

• Maintain an ongoing productivity and accuracy rate of 95% or higher.

• Keep an ongoing quality score of 95% or higher.

• Demonstrate effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make informed decisions, and meet deadlines.

• Capability to work independently from home.

• Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours daily.

• Infrequent ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
