Nuclear Startup Testing Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define, develop, and oversee the preoperational and startup testing roadmap for a nuclear power plant.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering, operations, and safety teams to formulate comprehensive testing specifications, procedures, and schedules.

• Ensure the plant initiates operations safely, reliably, and in adherence to all regulatory and design standards.

• Create an all-encompassing Preoperational and Startup Testing Roadmap, detailing test phases, milestones, resource requirements, and success criteria.

• Draft clear and detailed test specifications and procedures for various systems and subsystems (mechanical, electrical, control, safety systems, instrumentation, etc.).

• Assist in the development and ongoing enhancement of startup testing procedures, standards, and best practices.

• Lead a cross-functional team throughout the development of the testing program: coordinate personnel, assign responsibilities, and ensure that execution aligns with the roadmap and timeline.

• Mentor and train fellow engineers assigned to testing responsibilities (as applicable).

• Ensure all proposed testing activities adhere to relevant nuclear industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.

• Provide insights on the progress of the testing program development, associated risks, resource requirements, and schedule projections.

• Participate in occasional client site visits for review meetings and collaborative events.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field.

• A minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in commissioning, startup, testing, or operational support of power plants, preferably in the nuclear sector or a highly regulated power/energy environment.

• Strong comprehension of nuclear power plant systems (mechanical, electrical, control/instrumentation, safety systems) and their commissioning and testing processes.

• Proven experience in developing test plans, procedures, and documentation, along with leading test execution and commissioning phases.

• Familiarity with project management methodologies: scheduling, resource allocation, documentation control, and cross-functional coordination.

• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities, capable of identifying issues, evaluating risks, and effectively implementing corrective measures.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient in producing clear procedural documents, reports, and coordinating with various stakeholders (engineering, safety, operations, regulatory).

• Ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers.

• Attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while upholding quality and safety standards.

• Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is preferred.

• Previous experience specifically in nuclear plant commissioning/startup or nuclear regulatory compliance is preferred.

• Professional certification/licensure (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent) is preferred.

• Experience with project management tools and technical documentation systems (e.g., MS Project, P6, document control systems) is preferred.

• Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory frameworks relevant to nuclear power plants is preferred.

• Experience mentoring or training junior engineers or technicians is preferred.

• Familiarity with safety culture, QA/QC practices, and regulatory audits or inspections is preferred.
