• Collaborating with the Head of Central Digital Content to determine research and writing priorities.
• Building communities both online and offline to share stories once published and engage with readers about those narratives.
• Thinking innovatively to generate fresh, original story ideas and methods of delivering them to our audience that align with our digital platforms.
• Identifying and developing national and regional content that can resonate in your area, making it relevant and appealing to our readers.
• Assisting in the creation and management of a well-planned SEO calendar to ensure consistent content flow.
• Ensuring that each piece of content is meticulously researched and well-balanced before it goes live.
• With guidance from editors, using analytics to discover what our readers enjoy and what they seek next from our coverage.
• Collaborating with Newsquest’s central team and your peers across the UK to exchange ideas, best practices, success stories, and skills.
• Communicating with newsrooms nationwide to ensure your coverage aligns with the local market.
• A solid understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) and the ability to create content that performs well in search results.
• Insight into what readers are interested in, utilizing both your strong news intuition and data insights.
• A passion for storytelling that appeals to diverse and growing audiences.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• The capability to write—and think—swiftly under pressure.
• A strong news sense.
• A wealth of ideas for presenting stories in the most engaging manner for our audiences.
• An understanding of audience preferences and timing.
• Excellent social media skills with a talent for identifying stories and trending topics.
• NCTJ qualification (including 100wpm shorthand).
• Strong knowledge of relevant media law.
• Flexibility in writing style to produce a variety of formats, from live blogs and listicles to long-reads and features.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with a diverse range of individuals in the community.
• High organizational skills and the ability to manage your own schedule effectively while out in the field.
