Network Engineer – Cloud Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Delivering network operations and support for Varian’s cloud solutions.

• Managing private, public, and hybrid infrastructure, network, and security.

• Assisting in the upgrading, installation, and configuration of various cloud solutions, including monitoring, application access, security, Palo Alto Networks (Highly Recommended), Citrix NetScaler, and Citrix ADC.

• Supporting the reporting of current infrastructure status and planning for future utilization.

• Configuring and supporting backbone connections across ExpressRoute (Azure), direct connections, and VPN architecture.

• Maintaining the allocation of IP CIDR blocks and performing maintenance involving modifications to networks, subnets, VLANs, routes, etc.

• Verifying and acting on events aggregated from network monitoring tools and Web Application Firewalls using Varian-approved tools.

• Troubleshooting and identifying root causes of issues.

• Collaborating to swiftly resolve any network-related outages and effectively address customer-impacting issues.

• Contributing to the successful implementation of projects.

• Creating, updating, and refining documentation.

• Investigating root cause analyses of incidents with follow-up reporting and final content generation.

• Collaborating with network engineers on procedures, techniques, insights, and knowledge to enhance operations, security, and tasks performed.

• Delivering the highest level of customer service.

• Advanced understanding of vendor and telco/exchange/service provider support escalation paths, with the ability to escalate support requests to these vendors in a prompt and urgent manner.

• Applying network system updates, patches, and configuration changes.

• Planning network layouts and configuring systems to fit user environments.

• Serving as a technical mentor to colleagues as needed.

• Keeping up-to-date with assigned Learning Management System courses.

• Maintaining strong knowledge of Varian’s suite of applications.

• Eagerness to provide the highest level of customer service.

• On-call support as required.


⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in computer science or other engineering or technical disciplines is preferred, or equivalent experience (5-7 years of additional relevant experience may substitute for formal education).

• Experience in supporting and managing networks within an enterprise cloud computing environment.

• In-depth understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP).

• Proficiency in addressing, NAT and subnetting, CIDR.

• Expertise in routing and switching with dynamic routing protocols like OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and MPLS.

• Familiarity with VLANs, STP, and layer 2/3 concepts.

• Ability to conduct network performance analysis, including interpreting packet captures using tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, iperf, or SolarWinds.

• Knowledge of WAN and VPN technologies including MPLS, SD-WAN, IPsec, and SSL VPNs.

• Preferred experience with Microsoft ExpressRoute.

• Skills in hybrid networking setups and cloud-based solutions.

• Familiarity with Azure Virtual Network.

• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Network Firewalls, as well as experience with routers, switches, load balancers, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Citrix NetScaler, etc.).

• Expertise in network security concepts, including firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, access control lists (ACLs), and DDoS mitigation.

• Knowledge of authentication and encryption methods such as RADIUS, TACACS+, PKI, and SSL/TLS.

• Hands-on experience troubleshooting telecom/peering partner and peering provider networks.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical terms to business and customer stakeholders.

• Knowledge of ITIL and experience with Incident, Problem, Change, and other process disciplines.

• Experience in creating diagram documentation (Visio/Lucidchart).
