Movement Communications Specialist, Africa – Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ghana.

📋 Description

• Facilitate the development of relationships, trust, and understanding within our communities through interactive dialogue with our movement in Africa.

• Collaborate closely with team members to assist in the implementation of product and technology features on applicable Wikis.

• Monitor relevant community channels for updates, incidents, and requests while staying attuned to important discussions within the movement.

• Assist in identifying and mapping editor communities and the Wikimedia movement in the African region, particularly focusing on Product and Tech engagement, users with extended rights, as well as the needs and priorities of the communities.

• Aid in communicating the Foundation's initiatives to the communities, in accordance with guidance from the Movement Communications Insights.

• Provide support to the Movement Communications team by undertaking occasional tasks related to other organizational priorities as directed by the manager of direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• Exceptional written English skills and proficiency in at least one additional African language would be advantageous.

• Familiarity with the dynamics, policies, cultures, and channels of Wikimedia communities.

• A natural team player who enjoys collaboration and contributes a supportive attitude to group endeavors.

• Highly organized, adept at managing logistical tasks (such as scheduling, organizing, and notetaking), efficient, and capable of meeting deadlines.

• Ability to engage and facilitate discussions with volunteers across various formats, including virtual meetings, on-wiki conversations, and in-person events.

• Experience in a multilingual and multicultural setting.
