This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.
• Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to production, encompassing electronics, firmware/software, and enclosure design.
• Develop new products to enhance Timescapes’ hardware portfolio.
• Design and maintain software for high-level applications, embedded Linux systems, and low-level microcontroller firmware.
• Enhance and optimize existing Timescapes products.
• Coordinate and manage relationships with external industrial design and contract manufacturing (CM) partners.
• Collaborate with manufacturing facilities to supervise prototype production, testing processes, and the transition to mass production.
• Build partnerships with local and international suppliers for essential components like batteries, modules, and cable assemblies.
• Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to facilitate production, component sourcing, and distribution.
• Develop and maintain thorough design documentation, assembly instructions, testing plans, and manufacturing guides.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
• Proven experience in taking a product from its initial concept to market readiness.
• Demonstrated capability in managing electrical and firmware design, mechanical design teams, manufacturers, and post-release lifecycle support.
• Significant experience (ideally 5+ years) in embedded hardware development, including schematic capture, PCB design, prototyping, testing, and debugging complex systems.
• Strong practical experience with Yocto embedded Linux development, including kernel configuration, device trees, and root filesystem customization.
• Comprehensive knowledge across various hardware domains: digital and analog circuits, power management, communication interfaces, and system integration.
• Experience in designing secure IoT systems and implementing best practices.
• Ability to manage projects from start to finish, prioritize competing demands, and operate effectively with a great degree of autonomy.
• Strong understanding of DFM/DFT principles and hands-on experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs) and external design partners.
• Familiarity with guiding products through certification processes (e.g., CE, FCC, RCM, UL).
• Outstanding analytical and troubleshooting abilities, coupled with a curious and growth-oriented mindset in a dynamic environment.
