This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +22 more states.
• Oversee and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff while aiding in their training and ongoing educational initiatives.
• Assign codes to medical records in accordance with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding standards.
• Examine medical records to confirm the precision of diagnoses, procedures, and ensure optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional fees.
• Extract information from medical records in line with established methods and procedures.
• Analyze complex medical records that require research and reference verification, and accurately code the primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and/or CPT coding standards.
• Ensure the quality and volume of work through routine audits.
• Support the research, creation, and delivery of continuing education programs in specialized areas.
• Sequence diagnoses and procedures according to coding guidelines.
• Verify the accuracy of DRG/APC assignments.
• Gather and compile data from medical records to facilitate appropriate optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional services.
• Provide consultation and education to physicians regarding coding practices and standards to deliver comprehensive coding information.
• Collaborate with nursing and ancillary services personnel to obtain necessary documentation for accurate coding.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs to effectively apply ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines to inpatient and outpatient diagnoses and procedures.
• Keep abreast of medical record practices, standards, regulations, and guidelines from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO), Health Care/Finance Administration (HCFA), Medical Review of North Carolina (MRNC), etc.
• Assist with special projects as necessary.
• Perform additional related tasks as required.
• High school diploma is mandatory.
• RHIA certification - no prior experience necessary.
• RHIT certification - no prior experience necessary.
• CCS certification - one year of coding experience is required.
• CPC or HCS-D certification - two years of coding experience is required.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions.
• Proficiency in Anatomy and Physiology.
• Familiarity with Medical Terminology.
• Extensive knowledge of DRG/APC reimbursement.
• Familiarity with coding software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Data entry/CRT Level Characteristics N/A.
• Currently offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus, distributed in four equal payments over 24 months—every six months.
