Hospital Outpatient Coder I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Precisely assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers for outpatient hospital visits

• Code medical record documentation for Clinic Records, Diagnostic Services, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

• Achieve or surpass set quality and productivity standards

• Aid in managing the DNFB to maintain a minimal number of uncoded days

• Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), billing, and revenue integrity teams

• Identify documentation inconsistencies and escalate for clarification when necessary

• Reach out to providers or other personnel to acquire missing documentation promptly

• Abstract data with a high level of accuracy in line with established policies

• Engage in fostering a collaborative environment that promotes excellence in coding and outcomes

• Adjust to evolving departmental demands

• Ensure adherence to medical coding regulations and guidelines

• Carry out other assigned responsibilities

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Certified Physician Coder – Apprentice (CPC-A) or Certified Outpatient Coder – Apprentice (COC-A) is mandatory

• Certified Physician Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) is preferred

• Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Attentiveness and strong attention to detail

• Appropriate phone and email etiquette

• Capability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting productivity and quality expectations

• Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS

• Proficiency and experience in using an encoder and EMR are required

• Ability to work independently in a remote setting

• Capacity to perform well under pressure

• Competence in interacting effectively with colleagues
