Medical Coding Specialist – Orthopedic Surgery, Office Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess provider documentation from office visits, surgeries, imaging interpretations, injections, and various orthopedic services.

• Assign the correct ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes in line with official coding guidelines and payer regulations.

• Ensure coding accuracy and completeness to facilitate proper claim submission and minimize denials.

• Communicate with providers when documentation is lacking, unclear, or not consistent with coding standards.

• Stay updated on orthopedic coding revisions, payer policy modifications, and compliance regulations.

• Work alongside the billing team to address claim rejections, denials, and coding-related concerns.

• Uphold the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

• Engage in coding audits and offer insights to enhance documentation and coding precision.

• Support the education of providers and staff on documentation improvement pertinent to orthopedic coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Orthopaedic Surgery Coder (COSC), or an equivalent credential from AAPC/AHIMA.

• A minimum of 2 years of coding experience, ideally in orthopedics or a related specialty.
