MCP Engineer, AI Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain MCP servers along with MCP-integrated solutions.

• Implement MCP tools, resources, prompts, and backend interfaces effectively.

• Establish reliable communication channels between AI agents, tools, and backend systems.

• Define clear contracts for MCP tools and services.

• Enhance the stability, predictability, and maintainability of MCP infrastructure.

• Conduct tests on MCP tool performance across various usage scenarios.

• Monitor and enhance the quality of interactions between AI and tools.

• Create and maintain backend services utilizing TypeScript and Node.js.

• Collaborate with backend frameworks like Hono, Fastify, NestJS, and Next.js for backend/API routes.

• Develop REST APIs, internal endpoints, service-to-service integrations, and automation workflows.

• Handle authentication, request validation, error management, logging, and observability.

• Design clean, maintainable backend architecture for both internal and production-facing systems.

• Produce production-quality code characterized by a clear structure and robust error handling.

• Build and deploy backend services on Cloudflare Workers.

• Address edge runtime limitations and apply best practices.

• Create lightweight, efficient services suitable for edge/serverless environments.

• Troubleshoot issues related to worker execution, routing, request handling, and deployment.

• Utilize Cloudflare services when necessary, including KV, Durable Objects, Queues, R2, or D1.

• Optimize backend services to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Develop AI-driven workflows and internal automation tools.

• Create prompts, system instructions, and tool definitions to ensure reliable AI behavior.

• Improve the quality, consistency, and predictability of AI outputs.

• Analyze failures in AI workflows and enhance prompts, context, or tool contracts accordingly.

• Organize data and context to improve LLM performance.

• Construct testable AI workflows that can be assessed and refined over time.

• Engage with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude, or similar providers.

• Build integrations connecting internal systems, APIs, and AI tools.

• Automate repetitive operational or engineering tasks.

• Design backend flows that link AI agents with actual business systems.

• Ensure that integrations are secure, observable, and maintainable.

• Develop internal utilities and developer tools as required.

• Investigate and resolve issues across MCP servers, backend services, Cloudflare Workers, AI workflows, and API integrations.

• Enhance logging, monitoring, and observability for AI and backend systems.

• Identify root causes of unreliable tool performance or inaccurate AI outputs.

• Simplify debugging, testing, and maintenance of systems.

• Clearly document technical decisions and implementation details.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with TypeScript.

• Extensive experience with Node.js.

• Proven experience in building backend services or APIs.

• Familiarity with at least one backend framework, such as Hono, Fastify, NestJS, or Next.js backend/API routes.

• Experience with Cloudflare Workers or similar serverless/edge environments.

• Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON, authentication mechanisms, logging, and error handling.

• Experience in creating integrations between services and APIs.

• Interest in AI tools, LLMs, and automation technologies.

• Experience with prompt engineering or designing AI workflows.

• Capability to write clean, maintainable, production-quality code.

• Strong debugging capabilities.

• A high ownership mentality and the ability to work autonomously.
