Managing Director – LIHTC Community Investments

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead the LIHTC Production team, overseeing both Production Officers and the underwriting team.

• Partner with the LIHTC leadership team to enhance communication, foster alignment, and promote unity across the LIHTC platform; encourage a culture of constructive feedback, innovative problem-solving, continuous improvement, and enthusiasm for change.

• Evaluate new opportunities and collaborate with Production Officers to provide recommendations to Investor Relations and the Head of LIHTC regarding which transactions to pursue.

• Review and authorize Investment Committee Packages and Letters of Intent.

• Train and mentor both new and existing staff members.

• Keep abreast of LIHTC market trends, including pricing and legislative developments.

• Work in partnership with LIHTC Asset Management as necessary for both new and ongoing investments.

• Initiate and facilitate new business opportunities with developers involved in Low Income Housing Tax Credits.

• Ability to engage with senior management, investment committee, investor relations, legal, tax credit asset management, and other relevant business lines as required.

• Collaborate with legal teams throughout the transaction lifecycle to effectively construct and negotiate LOIs, term sheets, partnership agreements, and other necessary closing documents.

• Expand the platform by entering new markets, spearheading new initiatives, or launching new products that will ultimately be integrated into Aegon’s standard offerings.

• Provide effective leadership and management of team-level and ministerial responsibilities, which includes development, mentoring, and setting objectives to achieve departmental goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a focus in finance, accounting, mathematics, real estate, business, and/or economics.

• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in real estate, particularly in acquisitions and underwriting, ideally within a financial institution or a low-income housing tax credit syndicator.

• A robust network of clients and/or industry recognition to attract new developers to Aegon.

• Proficient in underwriting and production, with strong negotiation and presentation skills.

• Proven leadership and management capabilities.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.

• Required proficiency in Excel for financial modeling of tax credit transactions, necessary for conducting and/or overseeing the financial analysis and preliminary underwriting of each transaction.

• Ability to exercise independent judgment while effectively collaborating in a team-oriented environment.

• Strong investment insight, exceptional leadership abilities, and capacity to work autonomously in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
