Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Engages in software development leveraging the KnowBe4 Software Development Lifecycle alongside Agile Methodologies.

• Conceptualizes, creates, and investigates Machine Learning systems.

• Converts data science prototypes through the application of suitable Machine Learning algorithms and tools.

• Conducts statistical analyses and utilizes the findings to enhance models.

• Inference Engineering: Lead the implementation and optimization of both standard predictive models and LLM architectures, managing trade-offs between low latency, high throughput, and cost efficiency.

• Platform Hardening: Evolve research prototypes into robust, production-ready microservices capable of handling substantial traffic.

• Lifecycle Orchestration: Implement automated pipelines for data and model versioning, validation, and retraining.

• Observability: Establish advanced monitoring systems for model drift, data integrity, and overall system health to ensure reliability in production.

• Collaborative Standards: Maintain best practices in clean coding, comprehensive documentation, and actively participate in thorough code reviews within the ML and Engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree or equivalent with no prior experience required.

• Training in secure coding practices is preferred.

• Proficiency in AI/ML and Core technologies: Python (production-grade), PyTorch.

• Data and Features: Experience with Apache Spark for distributed processing; familiarity with Feature Stores or automated feature engineering is advantageous.

• Infrastructure: Proficient in AWS (SageMaker, Lambda), Docker, and Terraform/IaC for reproducible environments.

• Specialized Tooling: Knowledge in custom inference optimization (Python-based); orchestration through lean, tailored AWS and Python-based solutions using Lambda and MLflow.

• Additional skills: Experience with C# and JavaScript is beneficial.

• Understanding of secure coding practices.
